What if I told you that a series of simple head exercises could rid you of your Vertigo forever?
You probably would not believe me, would you? Nobody would.
I know for sure I wouldn’t have believed it if somebody told me this a few years ago.
But I did. And it worked.
Here is my story.
My first brush with Vertigo
I was twenty-five when I had my first Vertigo attack.
I remember the distinct spinning sensation in my head, so strong that it woke me up. I could not move, so I clutched on tightly to my bed, hoping the spinning would go away. A queasy feeling started to emerge in the pit of my stomach and as I held on, it grew stronger.
I had to crawl to the bathroom to throw up. I remember I had to clutch the toilet with both my hands since it felt like I was dragged away from it. I sat on the bathroom floor, eyes closed, crying. I was terrified.
Everything around me was spinning. It was bad. Real bad.
I stayed in bed for a few days until the spinning was okay. When I visited the hospital, the doctors prescribed Meclizine to control the dizziness and suspected the attack was an anxiety-triggered BBPV.
Meclizine did not seem to help much, and I continued to struggle with dizziness and instability. I was no longer able to walk properly and felt horribly disoriented.
I was helpless and scared. Vertigo had brought my life to a standstill.
The fear of losing my job, of not being able to take care of family, and not being able to live a normal life, plagued me. Over the course of two months, I had three more attacks.
No medication seemed to really help me and as the days passed, this fear grew stronger.
Learning about Vertigo
I knew very little about Vertigo and was keen on knowing all about it. I went through reviews for various alternative healing programs. I scoured the internet for more information related to Vertigo, and what causes this crippling condition.
So, what exactly is Vertigo?
Vertigo is a balance disorder and can be of two kinds – Central and Peripheral.
- Central Vertigo: Central Vertigo occurs due to an injury in the brain, mostly in the brain stem or other parts of the brain.
- Peripheral Vertigo: Peripheral Vertigo occurs due to a problem in the balance organs of the inner ear. Studies suggest that ninety-three percent of Vertigo patients suffer from Peripheral Vertigo.
The common causes of Peripheral Vertigo are:
BPPV (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo)
BPPV is the most common cause of Vertigo.
It mainly occurs due to problems found in the inner ear. Here, the spinning sensation is experienced on turning the head towards one side.
This cause of Vertigo is usually treated with movement and exercises involving the head, neck, and shoulders. This was the cause of the Vertigo that affected me.
Getting out of bed very slowly and not looking upwards, helped me cope with BPPV symptoms.
Vestibular neuronitis (Labyrinthitis)
This occurs due to an infection of the vestibular nerve present inside the inner ear. When this nerve becomes inflamed, the body loses its sense of balance.
In this case of Vertigo, symptoms may include loss of hearing as well.
These symptoms may tend to aggravate if you consume alcohol, are feeling tired and exhausted or are recovering from another illness.
This is believed to be caused due to changes in the fluid in the inner ear tubes. Symptoms usually include ringing and fullness in ears and fluctuating loss of hearing. Headaches are also a common symptom of this Vertigo cause.
What causes the spinning and the ugly imbalance?
Our ears play a major role in helping us maintain balance.
Inside the inner ear reside tiny calcium carbonate crystals called Otoliths. We sense movement and gravity, due to the force applied to these tiny crystals. These tiny crystals stimulate nerve cells to send signals to our brain.
If these tiny crystals loosen or fall out-of-place into the semicircular canal, the brain receives signals that the head is moving more than it actually is. This causes the rapid head spinning and loss of balance in Vertigo.
Does medication actually help Vertigo?
Medication may provide short-term relief from symptoms of Vertigo. These medicines are the same ones used for treating nausea or motion sickness. There are no good studies to prove that medication helps treat Vertigo, but it may provide temporary relief.
Going back to my story…
On one of those dark days, I was referred to this program called The Vertigo and Dizziness program by a dear friend- Sarah. She had seen this work on her Vertigo patients and wanted me to try. Honestly, after days of research and medication, I did not expect much out of it. But after a lot of persuasions, I decided it would not hurt to try.
After about a month of procrastination, Sarah pushed me to buy this program.
